A self-fulfilling prophecy is also known as the Pygmalion effect. This was originated from greek mythology, involving a sculptor named Pygmalion. This sculptor believed that there is an ideal woman and thus he created an ivory statue of the ideal woman and named her Gala tea. Pygmalion fell in love with the statue he sculpted and asked the goddess Venus to bring her to life. His wish was granted and Pygmalion and Gala tea lived happily ever after.
“The self-fulfilling prophecy is, in the beginning, a false definition of the situation evoking a new behaviour which makes the original false conception come ‘true’. -Robert K. Merton (the sociologist that coined the term)” Hence a self fulfilling prophecy is something manifested in your belief and you act like that to make the whole belief true. This can be also known/interpreted as reverse phsycology and it is sometimes used in negative connotations as well as positive.
So what you believe is what you can achieve, if you believe you can do it, you will work hard, with determination and perseverance, and you will make it possible. Its the same thing here, if you keep on thinking about the negative news and incidents, you would keep harping on it and in the end, the negative news might come true. So instead, think positive and not anything negative and the end result might just be positive.
If you are afraid these prophecies would come true, just don’t make these prophecies as it would eventually cause you to lose your mind. Just don’t judge people and predicting the future. The future is not in our hands, so why don’t we just let nature take its course and not try to control it with our prophecies. The same thing goes here, try to think positive always, even when we get negative news, try to have hope and see it in a different perspective, and not make prophecies about this. We might never know what is going to be the end result. So think positive and be happy!
