Locke and Latham (2002) define goals as ‘the object or aim of an action, for example, to attain a specific standard of proficiency, usually within a specified time limit.’
“Goal setting theory was born out of Aristotle’s theory of final causality and then researched in greater detail by Edwin A. Locke in the 1960s to understand how goals can influence an individual’s performance.”
In Goal Setting we set goals that are understandable and clear, so we know what to do and what not to do, Challenging, so we will be stimulated and not be bored and accomplishable, so we are unlikely to fail.
Goal Setting is able to motivate you to meet your goals and ambitions as it helps you to focus your actions and efforts on it.
In short, Goal Settings is that specific goals would increase your performance, and difficult goals results in higher performance than easy goals.
Hence it is important to set goals and to make your goals attainable.
